10/28/03

Drew Bobb of Paint Valley and Brice Redman of Westfall are the lineman and back of the year, respectively, on the Scioto Valley Conference 2003-04 all-league football team.

Bobb, a 6-5, 240-pound senior who played both ways for the unbeaten Bearcats at tight end and linebacker, also was named kicker of the year by the league's coaches.

Paint Valley's Pete Hollon, who guided the Bearcats to their seventh gold football for an undefeated league season, is the league's coach of the year.

Redman -- a 5-9, 159-pound senior -- is one of five players to repeat from the 2002-03 squad. The leading rusher among league running backs, Redman broke school career and single season  rushing records this season.

Also earning back-to-back all-league honors are Westfall's Mike Angles, Paint Valley's Zac McFadden, Huntington's John Eldridge and Jeromy Detty of Southeastern.

Detty, a junior, and McGrath are among six underclassmen named to the all-league team. They are joined by Zane Trace juniors Matt Brooks and Curtis Chaffin and sophomore Colton Coy and junior Joe Jaskowiak of Adena.

Paint Valley, Westfall in grid playoffs
10/25/03

Paint Valley will host a first round game Friday and Westfall will travel to Bellaire Saturday for first round games in the Ohio High School Athletic Association post-season football playoffs.

Paint Valley's unbeaten Scioto Valley Conference champions (10-0) will host Cincinnati Christian Hills (8-1) for the second straight year at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at George Knisley Field.

The Bearcats defeated the Cincinnati school in a first round game at Knisley Field last year.

Paint Valley finished second in the final computer rankings compiled by the Ohio High School Athletic Association in Division V, Region 20.

Westfall (9-1) -- making the second playoff appearance in school history -- finished fifth in Division IV, Region 15. The Mustangs' only loss of the season was 27-25 at Paint Valley in the Scioto Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Westfall entered Friday night's season finale ranked fourth in Region 15 ahead of Martin's Ferry. However, Martin's Ferry vaulted into third place with a win over Bellaire (8-2) Saturday, pushing the Mustangs down to fifth.

Although the OHSAA website lists starting times for all games on Saturday as 7 p.m., Bellaire Nelson Field has no lights. The game has been moved to a noon start.
