Bobb, Redman top
SVC gridders

Drew Bobb of Paint
Valley and Brice Redman of Westfall are the lineman and back of
the year, respectively, on the Scioto Valley Conference 2003-04
all-league football team.
Bobb, a 6-5,
240-pound senior who played both ways for the unbeaten Bearcats at
tight end and linebacker, also was named kicker of the year by the
league's coaches.
Paint Valley's Pete
Hollon, who guided the Bearcats to their seventh gold football for
an undefeated league season, is the league's coach of the year.
Redman -- a 5-9,
159-pound senior -- is one of five players to repeat from the
2002-03 squad. The leading rusher among league running backs,
Redman broke school career and single season rushing records
this season.
Also earning
back-to-back all-league honors are Westfall's Mike Angles, Paint
Valley's Zac McFadden, Huntington's John Eldridge and Jeromy Detty
of Southeastern.
Detty -- who also
broke school career and single season rushing records -- was named
co-punter of the year with Paint Valley sophomore Justin McGrath.
Detty, a junior, and
McGrath are among six underclassmen named to the all-league team.
They are joined by Zane Trace juniors Matt Brooks and Curtis
Chaffin and sophomore Colton Coy and junior Joe Jaskowiak of Adena.

Paint Valley will
host a first round game Friday and Westfall will travel to
Bellaire Saturday for first round games in the Ohio High School
Athletic Association post-season football playoffs.
Paint Valley's unbeaten Scioto Valley
Conference champions (10-0) will host Cincinnati Christian Hills
(8-1) for the second straight year at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at
George Knisley Field.
The Bearcats
defeated the Cincinnati school in a first round game at
Knisley Field last year.
Paint Valley
finished second in the final computer rankings compiled by the
Ohio High School Athletic Association in Division V, Region 20.
Westfall (9-1) -- making
the second playoff appearance in school history -- finished fifth
in Division IV, Region 15. The Mustangs' only loss of the season
was 27-25 at Paint Valley in the Scioto Valley Conference opener
for both teams.
Westfall entered
Friday night's season finale ranked fourth in Region 15 ahead of
Martin's Ferry. However, Martin's Ferry vaulted into third place
with a win over Bellaire (8-2) Saturday, pushing the Mustangs down
to fifth.
Although the OHSAA
website lists starting times for all games on Saturday as 7 p.m.,
Bellaire Nelson Field has no lights. The game has been moved to a
noon start.

SVC powers in
top four in grid rankings

Scioto Valley
Conference grid powers Paint Valley and Westfall remain second and
fourth, respectively, in their divisions of the weekly football
computer rankings released Tuesday by the Ohio High School
Athletic Association.
The top eight teams
in each region at the end of the regular season Friday qualify for
the post season playoffs with the top four teams hosting first
round games.
Paint Valley --
gunning for an undefeated regular season when the Bearcats host
rival Huntington Friday night -- trail only Marion Pleasant in
Division V, Region 20, 18.6833-17.0388. Rounding out the top four
are Columbus Academy 15.5491 and Cincinnati Jacobs 14.6360.
Westfall's 15.8944
computer ranking trails Ironton 23.2658, Coshocton 19.0333 and
Bellaire 18.7482. The Mustangs' nearest challenger is Martins
Ferry at 14.9611.

graders down Westfall

Adena ruined
Westfall's perfect season 14-8 in Scioto Valley Conference eighth
grade football Thursday evening and Unioto edged
Southeastern 20-18 for its first win.
Westfall -- which
entered the game 6-0 -- already had clinched the SVC eighth grade
championship.
In seventh grade
football, Westfall capped a 6-0 season with a 24-0 win over Adena
and Unioto defeated Southeastern 14-0.
Kennth Corcoran
three touchdowns for the Sherman eighth graders -- a 34-yard pass
from Matt Workman and runs of six and 53 yards. Clinton Brown
scored the two-point conversion that made the difference in the
final score.
Seth Frejkowski
scored on a four-yard run for Unioto's seventh graders and added a
two-point conversion. The other Unioto touchdown was a 13-yard
pass from Hobie Cottrell to Jake Menick.

slip in computer ranks

Paint Valley slipped
out of the top spot in Division V, Region 20 of the weekly
football computer rankings released Tuesday by the Ohio High
School Athletic Association and Westfall lost two places to fourth
in Division IV, Region 15.
The unbeaten
Bearcats (8-0) traded places with Marion Pleasant in their
season-long battled for the top spot. The top eight teams in the
final rankings at the end of the regular season qualify for the
post-season playoffs.
Marion Pleasant
enters week nine with 14.4750 points to Paint Valley's 13.7875.
Westfall's 13.6875
points trail runaway region leader Ironton's 20.2945, Bellaire's
14.7230 and Coshocton's 13.9375.

For the second time
this season, Paint Valley has climbed to the top of the weekly
football computer rankings compiled by the Ohio High School
Athletic Association.
The rankings are
used to determine qualifiers for the post-season playoffs. The top
eight teams in each region at the end of the regular season
qualify for the playoffs.
Paint Valley (7-0)
took over the top rung in Division V, Region 8 11.8000-11.5071
over Marion Pleasant, which had led the previous week.
Westfall (6-1)
remained second in Division IV, Region 15, trailing only Ironton
16-7237-12.4285.

Huntington blanked
Unioto 22-0 in Scioto Valley Conference eighth grade football
Thursday evening and Unioto won the seventh grade game 20-12.
Westfall swept Paint
Valley, winning the eighth grade game 20-0 and downing the
Bearcats 26-14 in seventh grade action. Zane Trace slipped past
Southeastern 22-14 in overtime.
The Zane Trace
seventh graders blanked Waverly 42-0 Tuesday evening.
Seth Frejkowski
scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for Unioto's seventh graders. His TD's were on a 42-yard run and a five-yard
pass from Hobie Cottrell. Cottrell also threw a 17-yard touchdown
pass to Jake Menick.
PV, WF No. 2 in
computer rankings

Paint Valley and
Westfall are ranked No. 2 in their respective regions in the
latest prep football computer rankings released Tuesday by the
Ohio High School Athletic Association.
Unbeaten Paint
Valley -- ranked No. 1 in its region last week for the first time
in school history -- now trails Morral Ridgedale 10.5500-10.2833
in Division V, Region 20. The Bearcats are at Zane Trace Friday.
Westfall -- a 27-25
loss to Paint Valley the only blemish on its record -- is second
in Division IV, Region 15, trailing Ironton 13.8123-10.2666. The
Mustangs face a challenge this week from upstart Adena, ranked
13th in Division V, Region 20.
The top eight teams
in each region at the end of the regular season qualify for
post-season playoffs.
Chillicothe drops
seven places to 18th in Division II, Region 8 in the wake of its
loss to Olentangy. The Cavaliers host Upper Arlington Friday.

Paint Valley has
climbed to the top of the mountain in the weekly prep football
computer rankings released Tuesday by the Ohio High School
Athletic Association.
Coach Pete Hollon's
Bearcats are No. 1 in Division V, Region 20, replacing Marion
Pleasant, which held down the top spot when the first rankings
were released after week 4 of the season.
Paint Valley enters
Friday night's game at Piketon with an average of 9.5500 points
compared to Pleasant's 9.3000.
The top eight teams
in each region at the end of the regular season qualify for
post-season playoffs.
Westfall (8.9000)
remains No. 3 in Division IV, Region 15 behind Ironton (10.4570)
and Bellaire (9.0470). Coach Scott Bartholomew's Mustangs have
widened the gap over No. 4 Coshocton (7.1000).
Chillicothe has
moved up two notches to 11th in Division II, Region 8 with an
average of 5.2000 points. Vandalia Butler is No. 8 in the region
at 7.0500.

Piketon, Westfall
and Paint Valley were eighth grade winners in junior high football Thursday evening
as the Redstreaks defeated Unioto 30-18, Westfall downed
Huntington 20-12, Adena blanked Zane Trace 26-0 and Paint Valley was a 26-12 winner over
Southeastern.
In seventh grade
action, Unioto blanked Piketon 20-0, Westfall was a 45-0 winner
over Huntington and Zane Trace defeated Adena 46-0.
Michael Trainer,
Josh Frasure and Kenneth Corcoran scored touchdowns for Unioto's
eighth graders. Trainer had a 35-yard TD run, Frasure a two-yard
score and Corcoran a four-yard touchdown.
Clint Ison's 20-yard
interception return for a touchdown helped the Sherman seventh
graders to their first win in three games. Seth Frejkowski scored
on a five-yard run and Hobie Cottrell on a one-yard plunge.
Frejkowski also ran for a two-point conversion.

high in computer rankings

Paint Valley and
Westfall rank second and third, respectively, in their
respective regions in the initial computer rankings released
Tuesday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
The rankings are
used to determine playoff qualifiers -- the top eight in each
region at the end of the regular season advance to the
post-season.
Only Marion Pleasant
-- a perennial playoff contender -- is ahead of Paint Valley in
Division V, Region 20 by the narrow margin of .0750. Coach Pete
Hollon's unbeaten Bearcats average 7.5500 points to Marion
Pleasant's 7.6250.
Westfall -- which
suffered its first loss Saturday to Paint Valley -- trails
Bellaire and Ironton in Division IV, Region 15. Bellaire's average
is 8.9790, Ironton 8.6000 and Westfall 7.1500.
