Unioto upsets Zane Trace 3-2

Just five days after losing to Zane Trace 3-1 in a regular season finale, Unioto upset the Lady Pioneers 3-2 in a Division II girls sectional soccer semifinal Tuesday evening at Zane Trace.

Unioto (3-10-1) advances to the sectional final Saturday at Warren Local at 6 p.m..

Zane Trace finishes the season 10-2-2.

Unioto scored the winning goal with just seconds left in the match. Cassi Wertman and Staci White scored Zane Trace's goals.

"We had a wonderfully successful season and grew so much as a team," Zane Trace coach Kate Z. Noel said. "I only hope to make as much progress next season as we did this season. It was fun coaching this team."

Zane Trace defeats Unioto 3-1

Zane Trace defeated Unioto 3-1 Friday in a preview of their Division II girls soccer sectional semifinal Tuesday at Zane Trace.

Zane Trace (10-1-2) led 1-0 at halftime on Tasha Clifton's unassisted goal. Unioto answered with an unassisted goal by Jennifer Gonsalves after the intermission, but Clifton and Cassi Wertman delivered unassisted goals for the win.

Rylie Hill had four saves for Zane Trace, which outshot Unioto (2-10-1) 10-8.

Zane Trace blanks Logan Elm 3-0

Zane Trace blanked Logan Elm 3-0 in girls soccer Thursday evening behind a pair of goals by Darby Mitchell and one by Cassi Wertman.

Mitchell scored both of her goals in the first half -- one assisted by Wertman, who scored her goal late in the second half.

"Staci White controlled the defense the entire game," Zane Trace coach Kate Z. Noel said.

Zane Trace gets second straight tie

Zane Trace and Jackson battled to a 1-1 tie in girls soccer Wednesday evening, the second straight 1-1 tie for the Lady Pioneers.

Darby Mitchell scored the Zane Trace goal with an assist from Alisha Britton.

Zane Trace, Lynchburg Clay tie 1-1

Zane Trace and Lynchburg Clay battled to a 1-1 tie in girls soccer Saturday.

The Lady Pioneers (9-1-1) salvaged the tie despite being outshot 25-8.

"Lynchburg Clay is the best overall soccer team we have faced this year," said Zane Trace coach Kate Z. Noel. "ZT stepped up its play a notch and stuck right in there with them. The defense played strong the whole game, especially the second half. Center defense Jenny Thompson played a strong, consistent game."

Tasha Clifton gave Zane Trace a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 10th minute off an assist by Cassi Wertman. Laura King scored Clay's second half goal.

Rylie Hill had 11 saves for Zane Trace.

"She played about the best I have seen her play, using her body to keep her opponents away," Noel said.

Zane Trace suffers first loss 3-2

Zane Trace suffered its first loss of the season in girls soccer Wednesday evening 3-2 at the hands of Hillsboro.

The Lady Pioneers had won their first nine games.

"Hillsboro passed the ball, utilizing the entire field," Zane Trace coach Kate Z. Noel said, "while many times the ZT girls stood and watched. Jennie Thompson played a hard defensive game trying to stop their passing game."

Tasha Clifton had a goal in each half for Zane Trace on assists by Cassi Wertman and Darby Mitchell. Rylie Hill had seven saves for Zane Trace as the Lady Pioneers outshot Hillsboro 16-14.

Allyce Morgan had two goals for Hillsboro and Kacie Boester the other.

Zane Trace downs World Harvest

Zane Trace defeated World Harvest 6-3 in girls soccer Tuesday evening in a match marred by four yellow cards.

Staci White's hat trick led the Lady Pioneers, who also got two goals from Tasha Clifton and one by Cassi Wertman.

Rylie Hill had seven saves for Zane Trace.

Zane Trace rolls on 5-2

Tasha Clifton scored two goals as Zane Trace rolled past Hillsboro 5-2 Wednesday to improve to 8-0.

Darby Mitchell, Alisha Britton, Cassi Wertman and Clifton all scored unassisted goals and Mitchell assisted on Clifton's second goal.

Rylie Hill had nine saves for the Lady Pioneers "and held the defense against a strong passing team," Zane Trace coach Kate Noel said. 

"Stopper Amanda Renner sat on the sidelines because of an injury, so Jennie Thompson took over the role of stopper for the game and saved at least one goal for the Pioneers," Noel added.

Zane Trace schedule changes: Jackson, home, Oct. 6, 5:30 p.m.; Lynchburg Clay, Sept. 27, 1 p.m.; Greeneview, Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., and Unioto, Oct. 10, 5:30 p.m.

Zane Trace remains unbeaten 3-0

Rylie Hill recorded four saves as Zane Trace won its seventh straight match without a loss 3-0 over Liberty Christian Tuesday evening.

All three Zane Trace goals were unassisted -- one in each half by Tasha Clifton. Cassi Wertman added a second half goal as the Lady Pioneers outshot Liberty Christian 18-4. 

Krissy Bird had six saves and Ashleigh Stewart four for Liberty Christian. 

Lady Cavaliers win 4-2 in soccer

Chillicothe took a season-high 31 shots in a 4-2 win over Eastmoor in girls non-conference soccer Monday evening.

Joanna Terry and Jenna Hornyak gave CHS (2-5-1) a 2-1 halftime lead with a pair of unassisted goals and Kaitlin Beck and Ashley Allen provided the clinching goals in the second half.

Ann Velarde recorded seven saves for the Lady Cavaliers, who travel to Jackson Saturday for another non-conference match.

Lady Cavs end streak; ZT wins

Chillicothe's Lady Cavaliers ended a string of five straight losses with a 3-3 tie Saturday with Columbus Whetstone and Zane Trace defeated World Harvest 3-1 in girls non-conference soccer.

Zane Trace defeated World Harvest 3-1.

Chillicothe 3, Whetstone 3
Chillicothe -- which had lost five straight matches since opening the season with a 6-1 rout of Logan -- outshot Whetstone 18-9, including the tying goal by Gabriella Perry with 16 minutes left in the match.

Gina Aloiso tied the match 1-1 late in the first half only to have Whetstone lead 2-1 on a goal just before halftime. Joanna Terry tied the match at 2-2 after intermission. All three CHS goals were unassisted.

Ann Velarde recorded three saves for CHS, which travels to Eastmoor for another non-conference match Monday.

Zane Trace 3, World Harvest 1
Senior Cassi Wertman scored two unassisted goals in the first half and assisted on a third after halftime as the Lady Pioneers reeled off their sixth straight win without a loss.

Zane Trace outshot World Harvest 22-1 -- the latter an unassisted goal by Merielle Crison in the first half. 

Tasha Clifton rounded out the scoring for Zane Trace with her second half goal.

The Lady Pioneers host Liberty Christian at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday.
