Huntington
early girls SVC leader

As
expected, the rest of the field is looking up at Huntington and
Westfall after completion of the field events and the 3200-meter
relay on the opening night of the Scioto Valley Conference girls
track and field championships Tuesday evening at Unioto.
The
Lady Huntsmen and Lady Mustangs have won six of the past seven
championships -- one by Huntington (2001) and the remaining five
by Westfall, including last year.
Huntington
rates a slight nod to unseat the defending champions, who trail
the Lady Huntsmen 55-1/2-46 1/2 after six events.
The
remaining running events will take place at Unioto Friday beginning
with the 100-meter hurdles at 5 p.m.
Maleah
Thornton gave Westfall victories in the long jump and high jump
and Amanda Doyle answered for the Lady Huntsmen with wins in the
discus and shot put Tuesday evening.
Unioto
won the remaining two events -- Annie Matson in the pole vault
and the 3200-meter relay of Jacquie Whittle, Chastity Neff, Matson
and Kendee Lovely.

Jenkins and Amanda Doyle won two events each to lead Huntington
to the Ross County girls track and field title Tuesday evening
at Adena.
Jenkins
-- winner of the 100 and 300-meter hurdles -- also finished third
in the long jump and fourth in the high jump to claim medalist
honors with 30 points.
Coach
Rick Bethel's Lady Huntsmen also got wins from Adrienne Groves
(1600), Toshia Zimmerman (200) and Erica Montgomery (400) in outscoring

won 11 of 16 events to dominate the Andy Haines Invitational girls
track and field championships at Paint Valley Thursday evening.
The
Lady Huntsmen's Toshia Zimmerman won three events -- the long
jump and 100 and 200-meter dashes -- and was a member of the winning
400-meter relay to capture medalist honors.

Amanda Doyle won the shot put and discus and Courtney Jenkins

Bixler captured medalist honors for the third straight year to
lead Waverly to the Raidiger Invitational girls track and field
crown Tuesday evening.
Bixler
piled up 34 points with wins in the 200 and 400-meter dashes,
was second in the high jump and third in the long jump as Waverly
outscored runnerup Unioto 147-117.
Heather
Kremin of Northwest was the Scott Porter Distance Award winner
for the second straight year with 29 points -- winning the 800
and 1600-meter runs, finishing second in the 3200-meter run and
running on the fourth place 3200-meter relay.

won the team title 120 1/3-110 over Fairfield Union with Chillicothe's

medalist Micah Poe won three events outright and tied for first
in a fourth to lead Chillicothe to a second place finish in its
first entry in the Unioto Invitational girls track and field championships
Thursday evening.
Poe
-- headed to Indiana Wesleyan University when her prep career
ends -- broke meet records in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
She won the long jump and tied for first in the 200-meter dash
to take medalist honors with 39 points.

scored 111 points, trailing only Logan's 127 1/2 points.
Seven
meet records were broken in the girls competition -- three of

outscored Unioto 18-10 in the next-to-last event then finished
ahead of the Lady Shermans in the 1600-meter relay to clinch the
girls track and field championship in the Zane Trace Invitational
Friday evening.
The
Lady Panthers nipped Unioto 135-132 for the team title with Zane
Trace third with 107 1/2 points.
Defending
champion and Scioto Valley Conference favorite Huntington pulled
out of the event Friday afternoon because of the cold, wet weather.
Southeastern
freshman Lacey Ball picked up where her older sister, Megan, left
off by winning the 3200-meter run and junior Ashley McCray finished
second to give the Lady Panthers a 130-128 lead going into the
final event.
Southeastern
finished fourth -- one place ahead of Unioto -- in the 1600-meter
relay to seal the team championship.
Megan
Ball -- the dominant distance runner in Scioto Valley Conference
circles the past four years -- was second a year ago in the meet's
3200-meter run and won the 1600-meter event.
Lacey
ran on the winning 3200-meter relay team Friday night with Holly
