Unioto SVC 8th grade tourney champs

02/11/04

Unioto won the Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball tournament with a 32-26 win over Westfall at Zane Trace Wednesday evening.

Huntington took the consolation game 35-28 over Adena behind Lydia Bridenbaugh's 18 points -- including four three-point baskets. Kristen Snyder led Adena with eight points.

In the championship game, Jami Brake led Unioto with 10 points and Cassie Sowers had eight for Westfall.

Westfall, Unioto in 8th grade final

Westfall and Unioto will play Wednesday for the championship of the Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball tournament.

In Monday's semifinals, Westfall defeated Adena 39-26 and Unioto downed Huntington 37-27.

Adena and Huntington square off at 5:30 p.m. in Wednesday's consolation with the championship to follow.

Cassie Sowers' 15 points led Westfall past Adena, which got 16 points from Kristen Snyder.

Janelle Hougland and Jodi Finchum had 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Unioto and Lydia Bridenbaugh nine and Manessa Zimmerman eight for Huntington.

Semifinals set in 8th grade tourney

Adena, Westfall, Unioto and Huntington were winners in first round games of the Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball tournament Saturday at Zane Trace.

The semifinals Monday will match Adena against Westfall at 5:30 p.m. and Unioto against Huntington at 7 p.m.

The consolation game will be at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, with the championship at 7 p.m.

Saturday's first round results:

Adena 25 (Kristen Snyder 6), Zane Trace 20 (Chelsea Maxwell 6).

Westfall 40 (Cassie Sowers 15), Piketon 16 (Natasha Tomlinson 4).

Unioto 44 (Jodi Finchum 13), Paint Valley 26 (Lacy Spurlock 12).

Huntington 42 (Lydia Bridenbaugh 11), Southeastern 21 (Karissa Carroll 9).

Zane Trace girls sweep Flaget

Zane Trace swept a pair of girls junior high basketball games from Bishop Flaget Tuesday evening, winning the eighth grade game 27-13.

Five players scored four points for the Zane Trace eighth graders while Meg Martin's seven points led Flaget.

Huntington, Adena in 7th grade final

Huntington and Adena will play Thursday evening for the girls basketball championship of the Huntington 7th Grade Invitational.

Huntington defeated Piketon 38-13 and Adena got past Unioto 35-25 in semifinals Monday evening.

Thursday's championship game will follow the 6:15 p.m. consolation between Piketon and Unioto.

Bridgette Neighbors scored 11 points and ReaLeah Kellough 10 to lead Huntington past Piketon, which got five points from Heather Burns.

Adena's Ashley Jordan scored 10 points and Brooke Snyder and Leslie Gallaugher six apiece against Unioto, which was led by Katelyn Jinks' 11.

Huntington 35, Southeastern 11. High scorers: Bridgette Neighbors (H) 16, Allison Oyer (H) 9, Ashli Cooper (SE) 5.

Zane Trace hosts 8th grade tourney

Zane Trace is hosting the Scioto Valley Conference eighth grade girls basketball tournament starting with first round games Saturday, Feb. 7.

The pairings:

First round -- Zane Trace vs Adena, 10 a.m.; Westfall vs Piketon, noon; Unioto vs Paint Valley, 2 p.m.; Huntington vs Southeastern, 4 p.m.

Semifinals (Monday, Feb. 9) -- Zane Trace/Adena winner vs Westfall/Piketon, 5:30 p.m.; Unioto/Paint Valley winner vs Huntington/Southeastern winner, 7 p.m.

Consolation (Wednesday, Feb. 11) -- 5:30 p.m.

Championship (Wednesday, Feb. 11) -- 7 p.m.

Huntington, Westfall share title

Huntington escaped Zane Trace 36-33 and Westfall defeated Unioto 33-28 as the two winners share the Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball championship.

Adena completed a 7-0 sweep of the seventh grade competition with a win over Paint Valley.

In other eighth grade games, Adena downed Paint Valley and Southeastern topped Piketon 35-25.

Cassie Sowers' 15 points and 10 rebounds led Westfall past Unioto, which fell out of a tie for first place in the league race. Megan Harkness added six points for the Lady Mustangs while Britney Neff had eight points and Jodi Finchum six for Unioto.

Lydia Bridenbaugh's 28 points paced Huntington in its win over Zane Trace.

Karissa Carroll scored 12 points and Brittany Leeson nine to lead Southeastern to its first SVC win of the season. Manley had nine points for Piketon.

In other seventh grade games, Huntington downed Zane Trace 38-23, Unioto got past Westfall 27-20 and Piketon defeated Southeastern.

RaeLeah Kellough's 14 points sparked Huntington's seventh grade win.

The drawing for the SVC girls eighth grade tournament at Zane Trace will be held Thursday evening.

Zane Trace girls win 19-15

Zane Trace defeated Vinton County 19-15 Saturday in girls eighth grade basketball.

The game had been rescheduled from Dec. 20 as part of a Paint Valley holiday tournament.

Chelsea Maxwell led Zane Trace (7-4) with seven points and Batey led Vinton County with eight.

ZT 8th graders down Bishop Flaget

Zane Trace's eighth grade girls ran their record to 6-4 overall with a 27-9 win over Bishop Flaget in junior high basketball Thursday evening.

Five players scored four points each for Zane Trace while Amie Downing scored five of Flaget's nine points.

Three share SVC 8th grade lead

Unioto squeezed past Huntington 34-33 in Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball Wednesday evening to create a three-way tie with Westfall for the top spot in the league standings.

Unioto, Huntington and Westfall all are 5-1 heading into the final game of the season.

Westfall was a 35-16 winner over Piketon, Adena (4-2) defeated Southeastern 50-30 and Zane Trace (3-3) downed Paint Valley 36-18 in Wednesday's other games.

Lydia Bridenbaugh's 17 points were not enough for Huntington, which lost to Unioto for the second time this season.

Kortney Flowers was the leading scorer for Westfall with eight points while Cassie Sowers added seven and Amy Adams six in the Mustangs win over Piketon. The Redstreaks got six points from Hilary Nickel.

Casi Coy poured in 16 points and Kristin Snyder 13 to lead Adena past Southeastern. The Panthers were led by Karissa Carroll's 14 points and Katelyn Krebs' 10.

Zane Trace got past Paint Valley on 12 points by Lindsey Large and 10 by Chelsea Maxwell. Tristain Rumfield led Paint Valley with seven points.

Adena (6-0) clinched at least a share of the girls seventh grade title with a win over Southeastern while Huntington (5-1) remained just a game back of the leaders with a 42-25 victory over Unioto (4-2) behind Bridgette Neighbors' 12 points.

In other seventh grade games, Zane Trace downed Paint Valley 27-15 and Piketon slipped past Westfall 18-15.

Huntington sweeps Bishop Flaget

Huntington swept a pair of girls junior high basketball games from Bishop Flaget Monday evening, winning the eighth grade game 24-23 behind Jessica Fraley's 11 points.

Bridgette Neighbors scored 16 points and Allison Oyer 14 as the Huntington seventh graders won 40-19.

Huntington 8th grade girls on top

Huntington took over sole possession of first place in Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball Wednesday evening with a 46-13 win at Piketon.

That coupled with an Adena win over Unioto gives Huntington a one-game lead over Unioto and Westfall, a 39-22 winner over Paint Valley. Zane Trace handed Southeastern a 29-15 loss.

Katie Mendenhall scored 11 points in Huntington's win.

Cassie Sowers and Stephanie Marvin led Westfall past Paint Valley with 10 points each while Lacy Spurlock topped the Lady Bearcats with nine points.

Lindsey Large and Hannah Janes scored nine and seven points, respectively, for Zane Trace while Brittany Leeson led Southeastern with 11 points.

In seventh grade games, Adena handed Unioto its first SVC loss to take over sole possession of first place.

Westfall defeated Paint Valley 24-21, Huntington got past Piketon 28-21 and Zane Trace was a 25-19 winner over Southeastern.

Bridgette Neighbors' eight points led Huntington's win while Alisha Thompson poured in 22 points to lead Zane Trace past Southeastern. Jordyn Wiget's two points and one by Rebecca Correti rounded out the Zane Trace scoring.

Huntington sweeps Zane Trace

Huntington swept a pair of junior high basketball games from Zane Trace Monday evening, winning the eighth grade game 43-20 behind Lydia Bridenbaugh's 20 points.

Chelsea Maxwell led the Zane Trace eighth graders with five points.

Huntington won the seventh grade game 35-12 as Allison Oyer scored 14 points and Bridgette Neighbors six.

SVC 8th grade co-leaders win

Huntington and Unioto posted wins Wednesday evening to remain unbeaten in Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth grade basketball.

Lydia Bridenbaugh's 17 points led the Lady Huntsmen past Southeastern 39-17 while Unioto defeated Paint Valley.

Cassie Sowers had 15 points and 12 rebounds to keep Westfall just a game behind the co-leaders with a 34-17 win over Adena. Casi Coy led Adena with eight points.

Lindsey Large and Chelsea Maxwell shared scoring honors with eight points apiece as Zane Trace defeated Piketon 39-12. Sarah Stratman led Piketon with seven points.

Adena downed Westfall and Unioto defeated Paint Valley to remain unbeaten in SVC seventh grade girls action.

Piketon got past Zane Trace in overtime and Huntington was a 35-14 winner over Southeastern. Allison Oyer and RaeLeah Kellough led Huntington with seven and six points, respectively.

Unioto takes two from Huntington

Unioto took a pair of girls junior high basketball games from Huntington Monday evening, winning the eighth grade game 32-19 and the seventh grade encounter 26-25.

Lydia Bridenbaugh poured in 13 points for the Huntington eighth graders and Allison Oyer, Cassie Large and Bridget Neighbors all had five points apiece for the Huntington seventh graders.

Brittany Leeson scored eight points and Natahia Puckett and Karissa Carroll six apiece as Southeastern lost to Jackson 33-22 in an eighth grade game.

Zane Trace (2-3, 0-3) defeated Paint Valley 34-24 in eighth grade action while Paint Valley won the seventh grade game.

Southeastern sweeps Waverly

01/03/04

Southeastern swept a pair of girls junior high basketball games from Waverly Saturday, winning the eighth grade contest 33-32 in overtime and the seventh grade game 23-18.

Karissa Carroll had 11 points and Brittany Leeson eight for the Southeastern eighth graders. Chelsa Osbourne led Waverly with 15 points.

Cassie Peters scored 12 points to lead Southeastern's seventh graders. Ari Leslie and Lindsey Entler led Waverly with six points apiece.

Huntington, Unioto win

Huntington defeated Chillicothe 29-26 in girls seventh grade basketball Saturday.

Alice Oyer -- the team's most valuable player in the game -- led Huntington with nine points and Cassie Large added eight points. Hannah Day's 16 points paced Chillicothe.

In the opening games of the Unioto Junior High School Christmas Classic Friday evening, Unioto swept a pair of games from Waverly.

Unioto won the eighth grade game 59-9 behind Janelle Hougland's 12 points and 10 from Kelsey Wilson, who was named the game's MVP. Chelsey Osborne led Waverly with four points.

In the seventh grade game, Taylor Corcoran scored 17 points and Katelyn Jinks nine for Unioto and Ari Leslie six for Waverly. Jinks was the game MVP.

Huntington, Unioto 8th grade leaders

12/17/03

Huntington defeated Paint Valley 37-17 Wednesday evening and Unioto downed Southeastern Tuesday evening to share first place in Scioto Valley Conference girls eighth basketball.

Lydia Bridenbaugh's 17 points led Huntington past Paint Valley.

In other eighth grade games, Westfall was a 29-21 winner over Zane Trace and Adena defeated Piketon.

Westfall's Cassie Sowers scored 13 points and Megan Harkness 10 while Lindsey Large led Zane Trace with 10 points and Chelsea Maxwell added nine.

In seventh grade games, Westfall was a 24-21 winner over Zane Trace, Huntington defeated Paint Valley 36-15, Adena downed Piketon and Unioto was a winner Tuesday evening over Southeastern.

Allison Oyer's 11 points were high for the Huntington seventh graders and Jordyn Wiget and Alicia Thompson scored eight points each in Zane Trace's loss to Westfall.

Zane Trace takes pair from SE

Zane Trace defeated Southeastern 30-17 in girls eighth grade basketball Monday evening and 32-15 in the seventh grade game.

Hannah Janes' six points were high for the Zane Trace eighth graders and Brittany Leeson and Katelyn Krebs scored six and five points, respectively, for Southeastern.

Jenna Crabtree led the Zane Trace seventh graders with 14 points and Jordyn Wiget added seven and Alicia Thompson five. Cassie Peters had seven points and Indian Dresbach six for Southeastern.

Huntington, Adena, PV, Unioto sweep

12/10/03

Huntington swept Westfall in Scioto Valley Conference girls junior high basketball Wednesday evening as the Lady Huntsmen got 28 points from Lydia Bridenbaugh in a 41-28 eighth grade victory.

Allison Oyer's 11 points led the Huntington seventh graders to a 38-10 win.

Adena took a pair from Zane Trace with the Lady Warrior eighth graders winning 42-27 behind Kristin Snyder's 18 points. Adena's seventh graders won 27-18.

In another eighth grade game, Paint Valley defeated Southeastern 36-29 as Breanna Knauff scored 10 points and Lacy Spurlock nine for the Lady Bearcats. Karissa Carroll and Brianna Leeson shared scoring honors for Southeastern with 11 points each.

Paint Valley also defeated Southeastern in their seventh grade game and Unioto swept both games from Piketon.

Huntington, WF 8th grade winners

12/08/03

Huntington, Unioto and Westfall were winners in Scioto Valley Conference eighth grade girls basketball Monday evening.

Paint Valley's eighth graders defeated Piketon Saturday.

Huntington defeated Adena 41-37 behind Lydia Bridenbaugh's 20 points and Westfall downed Southeastern 45-22. Cassie Sowers led Westfall with 11 points and Amy Adams and Courtney Flowers added eight points each. Southeastern was led by B. Leeson with 15 points.

In seventh grade games, Piketon downed Paint Valley, Unioto topped Zane Trace, Westfall defeated Southeastern and Adena edged Huntington 23-20. Allison Oyer's eight points led Huntington.

Huntington sweeps Paint Valley

Huntington swept a pair of girls junior high basketball games from Paint Valley Monday evening.

Huntington won the 8th grade contest 37-17 behind Lydia Bridenbaugh's 17 points. The 7th graders won 42-12 as Bridget Neighbors scored 16 points and Allison Oyer 14.

Huntington plays Bishop Flaget Saturday.
